Love??? What is it? What does it look like?
Here’s a picture of my grandparents, Dexter and Ida Dewing when they were in their late eighties after over sixty years of marriage. Still in love, even after many challenges.
I think it’s the perfect example of what 1 Corinthians 13: 4–7 explains: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes. Always perseveres.”
That was the legacy of Grandma and Grandpa as they practiced this kind of love not just with each other but with all of us.
And let’s not forget the greatest love of all. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3: 16
So today … hug somebody! Tell them you love them. Even if it might be hard. Because often the most difficult people need it the most!
